I have been searching for hair products that help to treat frizzy hair and damaged hair for a long time now. Over the years I have continuously used heat on my hair to style it, either using a hair dryer, straighteners or curlers and this in time has caused my hair to split and become frizzy and damaged.
I was kindly gifted some hair care products by Innocent Hair Care to treat this problem that I was facing. Even though they are advertised as an ‘Afro hair care line’ I was really intrigued to see what they could do for my untameable locks. They are a company that is so passionate about the quality of their products as well as ensuring the packaging they are selling is environmentally friendly. The products are stored within glass jars and glass bottles and are much easier to reuse than that of plastic, which is so much better for the environment. It is suggested on their website that the glass containers the products are packaged within can be used in a variety of different ways, such as pendant lights and used to plant flowers and herbs, which I love the idea of. Their products contain natural ingredients from plants which ensures your hair is being treated with the purest sources, which I have found helps to leave your hair feeling soft and nourished.
Here are my thoughts about their shampoo and conditioner:
Damage Repair Cleansing Shampoo (300ml)
This was one of the first products I tried from their hair range and I instantly fell in love with the simple packaging of the product. I don’t know if I am the only one and I know we are told not to read a book by its cover, but I always gravitate towards products with simple but aesthetically pleasing packaging and this hair care line fits that perfectly. The glass bottles are something I have never seen with any other brands and I was quite reluctant to use them in the shower at first, as I didn’t want them to slip of my shelf but this was not the case. They have a ridged bottom that helps them to stay in place and not slip around.
This shampoo smells incredible as it has such a unique, fresh and natural scent that I can’t get enough of. It has a pump that makes it easier to dispense the perfect amount of product for your hair. I found that I needed 2/3 pumps to cover my whole head and thoroughly wash my hair. It felt so weightless in my hair and when I rinsed the product out, my hair felt instantly more nourished and hydrated than before. The shampoo is slightly more expensive than others I have previously tried (£9.00) but it is worth every penny. Not only are you receiving a high-quality shampoo, you are also getting a reusable glass bottle that can used in a multitude of different ways.
This product specifically works to cleanse curls and kinks within your hair, removing a build-up of previously used products without stripping your hair of its naturally occurring oils. This is something it definitely did to my hair as I feel I do have a lot of build up from products I have used in the past when I wasn’t as knowledgeable about the damages certain products can have on your hair, that in time made my hair frizzy and damaged. This product has tackled these problems and left my hair feeling rejuvenated, smooth and soft. This was due to some of the product’s main ingredients; Castor Oil which is a fatty acid that helps to improve the health of your scalp and hair follicles, which in time can improve hair growth. Jojoba Oil is also a key ingredient within the shampoo which is a moisturising agent that combats dryness, slit ends and hair breakages; working to strengthen your hair and make it appear and feel thicker and more voluminous. I definitely felt the effects of these ingredients for my hair and this is a product I would repurchase and advise others to buy as well.
Soften and Smooth Conditioner (300ml)
This conditioner is also packaged in the same glass bottle with a pump which makes it easier to dispense the product. The scent is also natural and fresh but the main scent is Shea Butter and from this I instantly knew this product was going to be highly nourishing. The consistency of the product is a lot thicker than that of other conditioners I have used, so a little goes a long way. I applied this from the roots to the tip of my hair and left it to soak for 15 minutes. On the website you are advised to leave it on between 10/15 minutes but I wanted a deep conditioning treatment so left it on for the longest amount of time. After rinsing the conditioner from my hair, it immediately felt softer, hydrated and more nourished. It was also so much easier to detangle and had a healthy shine to it.
The main ingredients within the conditioner are; Shea Butter which works as an anti-inflammatory that helps to repair the scalp from any irritation without clogging its pores. This is something I have previously experienced and I didn’t encounter any type of irritation after using this product. Shea Butter also helps to repair hair that is damaged, colour treated and dry as it is a very natural ingredient that helps to restore moisture back into your hair. Coconut Oil is another key ingredient within the conditioner that helps to promote hair growth, making it appear thicker and healthier. The fatty acids and vitamins within this ingredient also adds nourishment to the scalp, helping to breakdown product build-up that may have formulated around hair follicles.
These products work perfectly together, helping to add hydration and nourishment back into frizzy and damaged hair. They are very affordable products and can be purchased as a duo for £18, which is well worth the money as I can see such amazing results. The company promote such a good message surrounding the use of glass containers as oppose to plastic, which helps the environment. The ingredients within the products have been carefully chosen so they are natural and healthy for the hair, that together help to leave your hair feeling rejuvenated and moisturised. I would definitely recommend these products if your hair is frizzy, dry or damaged as you can definitely see an immediate difference with its texture and appearance.
